Early Education Family Literacy Support Worker - Grand Center Inc - Nine PBS

The Early Education Family Literacy Support Worker will support in the facilitation of learning activities with families using Nine PBS resources. This position advances Nine PBS’s early education initiative work to actively care for children from our region’s most under-resourced neighborhoods through our high-quality educational programs and trusted partnerships. Specifically, they will support opportunities for families to learn together through our Nine PBS learning sessions, share their families’ literacy needs, and actively engage with PBS KIDS educational resources. The Early Education Literacy Support Worker will work with families of young children, up to and including age 8, throughout the St. Louis region. In addition, this individual will be trained in presenting our literacy resources to partners and the community. The ideal candidate will be experienced in public speaking and be willing to facilitate sessions, when needed; however, this position’s primary focus will be to support other early education staff in those activities.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Work with other Nine PBS early education staff on community activities and events that advance families’ engagement in, and adaption of PBS KIDS literacy learning resources
  • Engage families and children directly in modeling and utilizing literacy resources.
  • Support in efforts to retain current families and attract new ones in order to grow the network of families served.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Must have accepted a Federal Work-Study award for the current academic year.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Google Docs
  • Must have a desire to work with families in the St. Louis community to build literacy skills using a highest need for highest impact approach
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and be willing to support in the facilitation of training sessions, when needed.

 

Preferred Skills: 

College coursework or experience in education, communications, social services, public health, early childhood development, community engagement work, or related discipline, is preferred. Experience working with families and/or have some knowledge of education or community work.
