Unleashing Potential – Early Childhood Education Support Staff and Tutor
Description:
The Early Childhood Education Support Staff and Tutor supports programs and activities for preschool-age children. This role involves tutoring preschool-age children in mathematics and literacy as well as assisting in the implementation of daily activities, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment, and helps promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of young children. The Support Staff works collaboratively with the teaching team to ensure a high-quality early learning experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides tutoring to children in mathematics and/or literacy as directed
- Supports the teaching staff in implementing lesson plans and activities that stimulate children’s learning and development.
- Ensures the safety and well-being of children during activities, playtime, meals, and rest periods.
- Helps in organizing the classroom, setting up learning materials, and maintaining a clean, safe, and engaging environment.
- Interacts with children to encourage their development in communication, social, and problem-solving skills.
- Assists in persona care routines such as feeding, diapering, and toileting, while promoting independence among children.
- Supports the teaching staff in implementing positive behavior strategies and reinforcing classroom rules.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with parents regarding their child’s day, activities, and any concerns, under the guidance of the teaching staff.
- Assists in observing and documenting children’s progress and any concerns to share with the teaching staff and parents.
- Follows health and safety policies including sanitizing toys, surfaces, and equipment, and ensuring compliance with state regulations.
Qualifications:
- Must have accepted a Federal Work-Study award for the current academic year.
- Minimum age of 16
- Ability to effectively tutor children in mathematics and/or literacy
- Ability to pass a Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) background check
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with pre-school age children in a daycare, preschool or other setting
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
