Description:
The Federal Work-Study student will provide after-school tutoring to high school students, offering academic support in core subjects. This role helps students strengthen their skills, build confidence, and achieve academic success while supporting the department’s mission to serve the community.
Key Responsibilities:
The Federal Work-Study student will provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring, assist with homework and study skills, and encourage positive learning habits. They will help students review class material, prepare for tests, and develop strategies for academic success. These responsibilities directly support the program’s goal of improving student achievement and fostering confidence in their studies.
Required Qualifications :
- Must have accepted a Federal Work-Study award for the current academic year.
- Strong academic skills in core subject areas
- Clear and effective communication - Patience and adaptability when working with high school students
- Ability to explain concepts in an understandable way
- Reliability and professionalism
- Commitment to supporting student success and confidence
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience tutoring or mentoring students
- Knowledge of multiple subject areas or advanced coursework
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to engage and motivate high school students
