ABOUT TABLE FOR LOU:

Table for Lou has been teaching a free cooking class to underserved youth since 2018. In this position, you will work with our Table for Lou team to help guide middle school and high school students through various cooking lessons, helping our students gain confidence in the kitchen, and teach kids fundamentals such as basic nutrition and budgeting at the grocery store.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

In this role, you will work with a small team of youth to follow recipes and complete simple meals. You will also help wash the dishes and clean the kitchen after class is done. You may also help carry food and equipment from a vehicle to the kitchen. You will model patience, respect and enthusiasm to our students.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have accepted a Federal Work-Study award for the current academic year.
  • Must have patients and be flexible when communicating with youth
  • Must have confidence in the kitchen and know basics, such as measuring and how to operate a stove
  • Must be punctual and able to work in a team setting
  • Must refrain from using vulgar language
  • Must be able to work Monday evenings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current food, health, education, psychology or related major preferred 
  • Strong kitchen experience with knowledge of cooking and baking, restaurant experience is a big plus 
  • Background in working with teenagers 
  • Interest in teaching, particularly in the areas of food, health and personal finance
