Casa de Salud - Medical Assistant
Description:
Medical Assistants at Casa de Salud are responsible for providing technical assistance to the volunteer medical providers in the clinic. This includes completing clinical intake, exit, and performing ordered laboratory tests. Proficiency in online lab ordering systems, laboratory procedures, and phlebotomy are required. Spanish proficiency strongly preferred. Typical shifts are 4 hours 2-3x per week, max 15 hours per week. Clinic hours are 9am – 12pm and 1pm – 4pm.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collect intake information for patients’ medical records
- Enter medical information into Electronic Health Record system (Collaborate)
- Draw and process laboratory specimens for testing and collection
- Correctly process patient paperwork and medical information in accordance with HIPAA standards
- Notify patients of their lab results via patient portal and/or phone call
- Clean exam rooms in between patients using proper PPE and sanitation standards set by OSHA
- Ensure patients understand follow up instructions post medical exam/lab visit
- Other laboratory duties, as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Must have accepted a Federal Work-Study award for the 2024-2025 academic year
- Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 360 and Google Suite
- Commitment to working with underserved patient populations
- Previous phlebotomy experience
- Attention to detail
- Courteous bedside manner
Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest in medical field or similar
- Previous clinical experience at urgent care, ER, or similar
