Grand Center - The Sheldon - Gallery Desk Attendant

The Gallery Attendant will represent The Sheldon to gallery visitors during open hours at The Neidorff Family Gallery.  This person will welcome visitors, point them toward resources for the exhibit, enforce gallery rules for artwork safety and encourage visitors to complete the survey. 

 

In quiet periods, the gallery attendant will support other programming with assigned administrative tasks that may include data entry, preparing mailings, organizational tasks, and proof-reading. An aptitude for learning is required. 

 

Must demonstrate effective interpersonal communication, possess strong organizational skills, be detail-oriented, and self-motivated.

Attendance must be reliable and punctual.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Staff gallery desk as a welcoming and professional presence for gallery visitors in shifts Wednesday-Friday 12-5 or Saturday 11-3. 
  • Firmly yet politely advise visitors of gallery policies, like no food is allowed in the gallery.
  • Give directions and answer questions about The Sheldon and the art.
  • Facilitate transaction when a visitor wants to purchase art.
  • Maintain a neat personal appearance with business-casual dress.
  • Keep shared workspace  functional and tidy.
  • Perform other administrative related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Make suggestions, convey observations and acquired information to his or her supervisor.

 

Required Qualifications/Skills: 

  • Must have accepted a Federal Work-Study award for the current academic year.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • Must interact with Sheldon staff and visitors in a polite, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Must be dedicated to duty, possess good judgment and discretion, while being diligent in the performance of their responsibilities.
  • Attendance must be reliable and punctual.

 

Preferred Qualifications/Skills: 

  • Interest in, or experience with performing and visual arts
