Urban Strategies—Near North Side: After School Tutor

Work Study students from SLU will work one on one with children and youth, ages 6-18 in Preservation Square on reading and math after school in the 2018-2019 school year. Tutors will come to Preservation Square every day after school to work with children and youth who live in Preservation Square, on the Near North Side of St. Louis. A significant portion of the children and youth in Preservation Square are below grade level in reading and math. Their parents have asked for tutoring outside of school to raise academic achievement. Tutors will be trained on best practices in reading and math instruction and will receive ongoing professional development training from master teachers. Tutoring will take place at the Urban Strategies office in Preservation Square—1709 O’Fallon Street. Tutors will form a cohort and will have opportunities to interact meaningfully with the neighborhood, its children, its parents, and each other. Please reach out to Josh Goldman at Urban Strategies for further information.
