Good Life Growing - Urban Farm Intern (Federal Work Study Only)
The Urban Farm Intern supports and assists various outdoor and indoor farming activities that help address the problem of low-income, low-food access areas, local food insecurity & local food deserts. For example, Urban Farm Interns will:
· Support and learn about outdoor farming processes, programs, and volunteer events, like Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) package deliveries, weekly farmer market preparations at Soulard, mobile produce stand days at the Evans farm each Sunday, and many other tasks related to increasing access to healthy, locally grown food.
· Support community events and volunteer programs at a variety of sites while learning more about the regional food network—additional support sites may include Old North Provisions (Community Market & Grocery Store Outlet in Old North) as well as The GreenCubator, an indoor farming production facility and incubator.
· Support and promote job training and apprenticeship program opportunities for local to gain urban agriculture experience and learn about its many benefits and the growing local food network and system.
This is a hands-on opportunity that involves working with produce and produce preparation, hydroponic, aquaponic, aeroponic, and other organic growth methods. Applicants should be eager to learn more about urban agriculture systems, community development, economic development, and engaging persons from diverse backgrounds. Interns will be exposed to active community engagement, advocacy around urban agriculture, among other topics. Interns should be exhibit a proactive work ethic, show consistency in performance, strong communication skills, and, most of all, be willing to learn and ask questions.
