Seed St. Louis’s urban agriculture program supports over 250 community, youth, and school garden projects in St. Louis City and County. These community gardens and orchards empower communities to grow their own fresh food and build stronger, more resilient neighborhoods.

The Community Garden Intern will assist in all components of providing the support services we offer. This includes learning how to prep and install grant award materials like raised beds, compost bin systems, etc., meeting with garden and orchard groups, carrying out site visits, and planning and documenting services and outcomes.

● Assist in the recording and tracking of data related to garden projects
● Assist in enhancing Seed St. Louis’s application process and online presence to strengthen outreach to community members
● Internship Timelines: Summer (Mid May-Aug), Fall (Sept-Mid Dec)
● 20 hours per week (hours may vary per week and can be adjusted based on intern needs)

Knowledge & Skills this Intern May Acquire
● Vegetable gardening skills (planting and maintenance) and orchard installation skills
● Basic construction and tool use
● Understanding of community agriculture, sustainability, and development
● Working with volunteers

Desired Skills & Resources Required
● Ability to work outdoors in all weather
● Ability to do physically demanding work and lift up to 50 lbs.
● Willingness to work among diverse populations and environments
● Strong organizational skills and ability to follow through on tasks
● Ability to conduct basic research and produce outcomes
● Ability to work independently but communicate as needed for guidance and clarification
