School Garden Assistant (Urban Harvest STL)
Description:
Urban Harvest STL grows healthy produce across a network of five urban farms in the heart of St. Louis and donates the harvest to nonprofit partners serving communities with limited or non-existent access to healthy, nutritious food. The School Garden Assistant will support the Little Sprouts program staff leading a curriculum for preschool aged students in two non-profit childcare centers serving low income, low food access communities in the city of St. Louis. This position will directly assist the Little Sprouts Educator with implementing garden lessons, and work with the Farm Manager on-site to maintain the school gardens serving our partner schools. As a result of this position, Urban Harvest STL will improve this educational program and increase the school farms’ capacity for food production.
Duties and Responsibilities:
After completion of satisfactory background check: Lead children in weekly activities during the Little Sprouts Early Childhood Education Garden lessons, under the supervision of the Educator. Must be available Tuesday and/or Wednesday morning 9:00-11:30 am. Monitor and track children’s activity, using provided tools, as part of Little Sprouts program evaluation, under the supervision of the Programs Manager Develop educational and outreach materials (videos, info sheets, handouts, infographics, etc.) for lessons, teachers, and families. Document activities to share on social media Support overall farm management, including: weeding, watering, and general maintenance and upkeep of the school farms.
Qualifications:
- Must have accepted a Federal Work-Study award for the 2024-2025 academic year.
- Must be available Tuesday and/or Wednesday morning 9:00-11:30 am to support Little Sprouts Lessons.
- Must successfully pass a background check, paid for my Urban Harvest STL
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with preschool students
