Middle School Academic Coach (North Side Community School)

Are you looking for a Federal Work Study position that helps to support the future of St Louis children? North Side Community School (NSCS) is looking for Federal Work Study members to tutor students experiencing academic deficiencies. "Academic Coaches" will tutor students in mathematics, language arts, and science. In doing so, SLU Federal Work Study members will act as positive role models and support students toward a positive future! This role is designed to serve our Middle School Campus which is just a short walk from the SLU campus! North Side Community School is a PreK - 8th grade charter public school in the City of St. Louis founded in 2009 with an enrollment of approximately 500 students. The most important word in our name is community. We are a community of small classrooms (15 to 18 students per class), amazing educators, and caring parents working every day to ensure our children succeed! North Side Community School operates across three campuses (early childhood center, elementary campus, and middle school campus). We are free (no tuition), public, and open to all. North Side consistently provides a high-quality education often ranked as one of the best public schools in the City of St. Louis and the State of Missouri. Most of our students live in the most challenging neighborhoods in St. Louis and 100% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructions that encourage students to understand class material and empower their learning! 
  • Driven to help our NSCS students be the best they can.
  • Employing engaging, differentiated instruction to teach skills. 
  • Establish and communicate directions clearly 
  • Model effective academic strategies

Qualficiations:

  • Must have accepted a Federal Work-Study award for the 2024-2025 academic year.
  • Appreciates learning and mentoring St Louis students
  • A desire to impact the St Louis community in a positive way 
  • Acts professionally and models appropriate behavior for students 
  • Empathic to student hardships and community needs 
  • Nonjudgemental mentality 
  • Dedicated to supporting students and making a difference! 
  • An understanding of the Google Suite including Google Calendar, Google Drive, and Google Docs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education, tutoring or mentorship experience 
  • Enrolled in a degree program directly related to Mathematics, Sciences or Literature
